About me

Sam Fortescue

I am a writer, first and foremost, and a sailor.

My reports are published regularly in some of the best-loved yachting  titles on the newsstand, all around the world.

You'll find me in Boat International, Yachting World, Classic Boat, Sailing Today, SAIL, and many more besides.

My writing stretches from glittering superyacht reports to
insightful technical guides; gear reviews to in-depth interviews; lifestyle pieces to yachting history.

I am as comfortable exploring the owner's deck of a 100m yacht
as I am on my knees peering into the bilges of a 6m dayboat.

But the thread that runs through all my work is an engaging, authentic style, thorough research and an authoritative tone.

A lifelong sailor, I spent five years editing Sailing Today.

During my editorship I led the team that transformed the title
into a fantastic-looking magazine aimed squarely at
adventurous cruising sailors.

We also established the annual Sailing Today Awards and created
a social media following from close to zero.

Publishing is my passion.

Over 20 years, I have worked on b2b and b2c magazines
in the food and farming sectors, reported on EU affairs
and on local news.

I have edited satellite news broadcasts for the European Commission and contributed to TV and radio news.

I am also familiar with the other side of the fence, having worked for three years as Director of Communications
for a trade association.
